Focus & Goals

Transparency

Parents and community members should have easy access to information that impacts their students and community. This includes course content, district information, and expenditures which should be easily found on the district website.

Tangible Change

*All working committees published online

*Budgets available in graph form along with PDF

*Student enrollment should be updated live and available in graph form

*Committee and board meetings should be easily and readily accessible to parents and members of the community, even if they do not have the physical means or time to attend. Zoom meetings, live recordings, and meeting notes should be easy to locate and access.

Accountability

The primary role of the school board is to hold high-ranking members of district leadership accountable. To provide oversight and ensure that all members of district staff are providing services that are to the benefit of student learning. Additionally, they serve as representation of the community and should be the voice of all concerns and questions that exist within the community.

Tangible Change

*Reduce the budget for Central Office and filter those funds back into the classroom where they will have a greater impact on student learning.

*Ensure that the annual review of the Superintendent and his staff have clear and tangible metrics that honestly evaluate the effectiveness of the position. When expectations are not met, tangible corrective actions will be implemented to improve and monitor future performance.

Bringing back two-way dialogue

Members of the community, parents and otherwise, should feel as though their voices are valued. Rather than brushing aside parental concerns or trying to scare or use authority to silence dissenting parents, parents should be brought to the table and collaborated with to come to an understanding. Differing ideas should be seen as potential ways to continue to learn and grow, both in the classroom and in the community. Modeling effective and respectful dialogue for the youth in our community is currently a missed opportunity within the public arm of our school system.  Fear of being mislabeled or misunderstood has left students and adults in this community feeling helpless in making changes and improvements in the district.

Tangible Change

*Hard questions will be asked. As a district, board, and community, we will discuss problems and work to come to a solution.

*Difficult topics and conversations will no longer be avoided or silenced. We should listen and speak, openly and respectfully, so that we can be strengthened by diverse views.

*District funds and resources will no longer be used to silence or threaten those with differing opinions.

Valuing the role of all school stakeholders

Every member of the school community has value and should be treated as such. Parents, Students, and Educators make up the three legs that support the figurative stool that is a successful school district.

*Parents and community members are currently an untapped resource that could be used to bring professional and real-world learning experiences to our students. Because community members have become detached or disenfranchised from the RCS school community, this resource is not being used to its full potential, and we need to bring the community back into the school.

*Parents will be valued as the students’ first and original teachers. Parental concerns, input, and collaboration will be encouraged. The rights of parents will be respected, and they will need to accept responsibility for the role they play in the success of their student(s).

*Support the creation and documentation of clear policies and procedures that will ensure that all staff, students, parents, and administrators clearly understand their roles and responsibilities, so all expectations are clear.
